Spring in Lofoten offers long bright days, and of course lots of exciting things to experience at this time of year as well.
The sea is crystal clear and the many mountain peaks are still covered in snow, which provides wonderful contrasts and opportunities.
1. Eagle safari
Are you fond of wildlife and nature? Join us for a trip out into the fjord and spot the majestic sea eagle. It’s Norway’s largest bird of prey and the fourth largest of all the world’s eagles. The sea eagle is recognized for its characteristic features, such as its white tail, a strong yellow and hooked beak, eyes with a yellow iris and a magnificent plumage. There are several sea eagles that live just out in the fjord in Nusfjord and our experienced tour guides know where to find them. One of the best ways to see the sea eagle is on a RIB boat trip, but you can also see the sea eagle flying over the fishing boat or from a kayak if you are paddling in the fjord
2. The midnight sun
From the end of May you can experience the magical midnight sun. At midnight, the sun is low in the sky and spreads a golden light over the coast and mountains in Lofoten. It’s easy to get confused by the clock at this time, even the locals can go crazy. In Nusfjord you can enjoy the beautiful view in various ways, perhaps you are on top of a mountain, paddling a kayak, eating a late dinner or sitting on one of the many beaches. The midnight sun is magical to experience!
3. Kayak
Experience Lofoten from the water on a guided kayak tour. Paddle through the water as you gaze at the spectacular mountains, bustling birdlife and fascinating marine life. In a kayak, you get the opportunity to glide through remote bays and discover small, secluded beaches. Maybe you meet a seal peeking out of the water on your trip? Our guide shares stories about the area’s past and provides insight into the rich wildlife. You don’t need any previous experience to join and you can borrow all the equipment you need.
4. RIB-tour
Combine speed and history by joining a RIB tour. Places that are often inaccessible with normal boats or vehicles in Lofoten can be reached with the «Rigid Inflatable Boat». During a RIB safari you are taken on a boat trip led by our experienced local guide. Along the way, the guide tells about local history, nature and wildlife in the vicinity of Nusfjord and the Flakstad islands. You will see former fishing villages, experience powerful nature and decent speed. Take pictures and enjoy the wonderful nature around you.
5. Surfing
Whether you are going to try surfing for the first time or are an experienced surfer, this is a fantastic experience in Lofoten. The high season for surfing lasts until April, but you can surf in Lofoten all year round, so it’s a very nice experience even after April. There are several beaches to surf on and we recommend depending on the weather and your experience. The water is cold, but with a winter wetsuit you won’t be cold in the water. The beaches in Lofoten are absolutely fantastic and surrounded by mountains and beautiful nature.
6. Summit tour
Spring is high season for summit tours! In the spring, there is still snow on the mountain tops, which makes it perfect for skiing with a lovely view. Lofoten is actually one of the only places where you can ski from the very top of the mountain down to the sea. The ski season in Lofoten is usually from February to May, then the days are brighter again and hopefully snowy. The weather can also change quickly here, and there can be big local differences. Therefore, we recommend being prepared for severe weather changes that can change a day of sun and clear skies into blowing snow, strong winds and zero visibility.
