THE RETURN OF THE NIGHT
Aurora Borealis, changing light and life
September brings back something we have not experienced for months: darkness.
The long golden evenings of summer gradually give way to deeper blues and darker skies, opening the first window of the season for the Aurora Borealis. On the right clear night, green light may begin to dance above the mountains and reflect across the harbour.
The sea is changing too. As autumn approaches, wildlife activity shifts, bringing opportunities to head onto the fjord and perhaps encounter orcas, sea eagles and seabirds against the increasingly dramatic autumn light.
A season for looking up—and looking out.
FROM FOREST & FJORD
The flavours of autumn arrive
September is one of Lofoten's most abundant moments.
The final wild berries mark the end of summer, while the forests enter their prime mushroom season. Chanterelles and other wild varieties emerge across the landscape, some finding their way directly into the kitchens of Nusfjord.
At sea, crab pots begin to appear again. Pulled from the cold northern waters, fresh crab becomes another expression of the season—served simply or woven into dishes inspired by the coast.
For guests, it is a chance to experience autumn not only in the changing landscape, but in its flavours: foraged from the forest, gathered from the sea, and served in the village.
