Fotografiska – Opening weekend

We welcome you to the opening weekend of Fotografiska at Nusfjord – where a landmark photography exhibition meets a unique cultural experience, complemented by curated food & beverage experiences.

The opening weekend invites guests to experience Nusfjord as both a historic village and a contemporary cultural landscape.

Program highlights include:

– Artist talk with Rinko Kawauchi.

– A village-wide art walk where installations meet rorbuer, cliffs, and harbor walls.

– A collaborative culinary evening merging Fotografiska’s conscious cuisine with Arctic ingredients.

– A traditional fjord dip & sauna, echoing local practices- Shared meals overlooking the sea that sustained generations.

Why Nusfjord? Why Now?

“We believe photography should travel as far as curiosity can take it. Nusfjord deepens that belief – it brings art into a landscape shaped by human resilience and natural power. It transforms how we see”

– Bárbara Garcia, CEO of Fotografiska

“For us, this exhibition is a tribute. A tribute to the fishermen who built this place, to the community that keeps it alive, and to the artists who help us understand its soul in new ways.”

– Caroline Krefting, owner of Nusfjord Village & Resort

Nusfjord × Fotografiska

Opening Weekend 17–19 April 2026

A gathering where global artistic vision meets local soul. Over three days, Fotografiska’s international expertise intertwines with the deep-rooted craft, community traditions, and timeless beauty of Lofoten.

A Culinary Dialogue Between Past and Future

Fotografiska chefs Christophe Buchet and Gustaf Sandfridsson join Nusfjord’s culinary team to craft a menu that honors both:

The resourcefulness of the fisherman’s kitchen

The innovation of contemporary sustainable cuisine

Christophe Buchet is a French-Swedish chef who has held senior roles at top Stockholm restaurants including Ekstedt, Pubologi, and Leijontornet.
He is now Creative Leader at Fotografiska in Stockholm, driving a sustainable food vision, and also supports the Sweden men’s national football team. His style emphasizes respect for ingredients, precision, and creativity.

Gustaf Sandfridsson is a Swedish chef who has worked at renowned Stockholm restaurants including Ekstedt, Copine, and Wedholms Fisk, where he helped carry forward founder Bengt Wedholm’s legacy while modernizing the cuisine.

He is now Head Chef at Fotografiska in Stockholm, with a focus on sustainable gastronomy. Gustaf has also contributed to climate-conscious culinary projects and is part of the team supporting the Sweden men’s national football team.

Using local seafood, reindeer, lamb, seaweed, herbs, and zero-waste techniques, the menu becomes an edible story of place, sustainability, and shared craft.

15:00 – Artist talk with Rinko

Rinko Kawauchi’s work finds a natural resonance in Nusfjord. Her photographs, known for their quiet, poetic attention to everyday moments, reflect a sensitivity to light, nature, and the passage of time – elements that are deeply present in this historic fishing village. In a place shaped by seasonal rhythms, shifting weather, and close relationships between people and landscape, her perspective invites us to notice the subtle beauty that surrounds us.

Rooted in a worldview where all things carry a spirit, Kawauchi’s art mirrors the atmosphere of Nusfjord itself: contemplative, intimate, and grounded in the experience of being present. During this artist talk, she will share insights into her practice and the ways in which place, perception, and memory influence her work.

16:00 – Fotografiska’s walk-through

Fotografiska’s team leads a curated walk-through installations integrated into the village itself — a dialogue between contemporary visual culture and Nusfjord’s living history. Guests see how global art narratives can co-exist with local stories.
