Why Nusfjord? Why Now?
“We believe photography should travel as far as curiosity can take it. Nusfjord deepens that belief – it brings art into a landscape shaped by human resilience and natural power. It transforms how we see”
– Bárbara Garcia, CEO of Fotografiska
“For us, this exhibition is a tribute. A tribute to the fishermen who built this place, to the community that keeps it alive, and to the artists who help us understand its soul in new ways.”
– Caroline Krefting, owner of Nusfjord Village & Resort

Rinko Kawauchi’s work finds a natural resonance in Nusfjord. Her photographs, known for their quiet, poetic attention to everyday moments, reflect a sensitivity to light, nature, and the passage of time – elements that are deeply present in this historic fishing village. In a place shaped by seasonal rhythms, shifting weather, and close relationships between people and landscape, her perspective invites us to notice the subtle beauty that surrounds us.
Rooted in a worldview where all things carry a spirit, Kawauchi’s art mirrors the atmosphere of Nusfjord itself: contemplative, intimate, and grounded in the experience of being present. During this artist talk, she will share insights into her practice and the ways in which place, perception, and memory influence her work.
